Two of my favorite people got engaged this morning. Scott, who was our guitar player on Hedwig, and the ever delightful Lisa. Today was her birthday, so he started it off by proposing and then ended it with throwing a giant party for her. Awwww. Seriously awww.

Apparently in Louis ville - in September everyone dresses up like zombies and walk the streets - even shop owners come out to yell at the zombies. One of my first time meeting the two of them was when they were coming back from eating brains. Awwwwww.

I never noticed this before (it's one the brick wall where people can purchased bricks to support the theater or commemorate loved ones). It seems to have been there for a while - anyone know the story on this?

last night a dj (and a wiener dog) saved my life

In addition to be a dramaturg, literary manager, and hockey player - the wife djs on saturday nights. Here she (and hillary, who I'm sure helps out a ton) are in action. I'm guessing she's thinking about playing some Neil.

Little Known Fact About Me #1

It's a little known fact that I have been in one movie. I played Orville Wright - opposite Ty Pennington. We were brilliant. We were on for a total of 60 seconds. I think my back is to the camera for the majority of it - but my back was brilliant. The film has since gone on to be a "family favorite" and recently HBO showed it in 5 countries.

Just this morning, the link to watch the trailer was forwarded to me. Comedy gold.

Also, last night I had a few people over, and we ended up watching an old episode of Three's Company. It occured to all of us that the set of Three's Company is almost identical to the proposed set for Gordo. I think Paul Owen has tapped in to the perfect comedic set - lots of doors, lots of entrances, and couches that face downstage.

We may have to work a Regal Begal into the show.

It feels like this is the worst kept secret since we found out Jodie Foster was a lesbian. That's probably just I was in New York casting for it. Still, it's finally here! Huzzah!

Old-Fashioned Charm

Last night I met with my intern, Dav Yendler, a nice russian boy who was recommended to me by Adam Greenfield – who said “if he doesn’t work out for you, I’ll buy you a bottle of tequila”. That may be the greatest recommendation I’ve ever heard, so I took him. Last night we met and chatted about “the first semester” and had a few drinks (read: 6). At the end of the evening, I was heading home, as I am old – and he, Jessica, and Chris S. decided that they were going to have an adventure and drive, perhaps to Cincinnati, perhaps just 30 minutes and turn around. As I got home, I got a call from them, saying there were at a Wendy’s in some random town in Kentucky, and did I want anything. I joked that I wanted a small frosty, and then went to bed, not thinking about it.

When I left this morning to come to rehearsal, there was a small frosty sitting in front of my door.

Luckily it’s Kentucky in the winter, so it was still intact.

Charming these children are. Charming.

The real heroes of the American Theater

Actors’ former board president, Yandell Smith, died Saturday. Yandell is the mythical president that in 1968 locked the doors at the board meeting and no one could leave until they wrote a $4,000 check so that the Theatre could have a season.

Out of My League

While I was in New York doing casting (and having a $50 hamburger - but oh lord was it tasty), the wife swung by to look fashionable, and then went off to win a hockey tournament in Utah. Hmmmm....her week sounds a bit more interesting. Though seriously it was an amazing burger. But I have no trophy to show for it.

Operation Project Brother

So, we had our first production meeting for my Humana show – which since we can’t name yet (the titles are released on Dec. 15th) has been code named “Project Brother” by the ever charming Mark Walston.

Funny bit of chatter that came out of it. All the designers were telling stories about growing up with their sibilings – Deb Sullivan actually did the "Brady Brunch putting tape in the middle of the room" to separate her and her sisters space – Callahan and his brother when they were 5 and 8, used to pretend to be newspaper reporters and then go sit in the kitchen, shoot water and talk about how tough the day had been – and I told the story of how my brother once filled a squirt gun with urine to shoot me, after which I threw a football helmet at him, putting a large whole in the wall. Apparently when it comes to sibiling stories to fuel this show – we got them in spades.
